The Cobra PUMA Golf Experience

Cobra PUMA 0I may be a fan of all sport, but as someone who plays golf and cricket, any opportunity to combine the two is intriguing. PUMA were at it once again, as they delivered the next edition of the Cobra PUMA Golf Experience where golfing skills would be tested in a cricket stadium, namely Supersport Park, the home of the Unlimited Titans. Having attended a previous Cobra PUMA Golf Experience, we were intrigued to see what was in store and we weren’t disappointed. The idea of the event was to have a bit of social fun with PUMA while also testing out your golfing skills and the new Biocell Cobra clubs.

The Golf

Cobra PUMA 2There were three challenges on the day and your four ball had to score as many points as possible. I was paired with OG Molefe from ETV, Murray White from GolfWeather.com and Matt Karpinski, the brother of our MC and PUMA Ambassador Ben Karpinski from the Bounce. In our first event we took on the Iron play as you had to hit targets on the grass embankment, over the pitch from the other grass embankment. This proved to be remarkably challenging. Second up was the driving game where your biggest drive counted. The maximum points you could get was 100 if you hit over 270. Matt, OG, Myself and Murray took a combined 9 drives to get all four of us over the target. The last one was the chipping challenge where you needed to chip directly into kiddies pools at a range of 50-90 metres. This was also quite challenging as the target was missed by millimetres. Of course all of this was done with the new range of BioCell clubs, which Ill talk about a bit later.

The Drinks

Cobra PUMA 4There was your normal variety of ABI and SAB products as many tried out the very manly and very popular Flying Fish, along with the host of Castle Lite and others. But the real treat on the day was the opportunity to try out some of the Smack Republic beers. Alongside the Braamfontein Brawler (An ATJ favourite), guests got to try the Maboneng Maverick, the Bree Street Belle and their new honey & tea beer, an interesting difference. If you want to try out some Smack Republic, check them out every Sunday at Market on Main or give them some love on Twitter, they will give it back.

The Social

Cobra PUMA 1As always, if PUMA are involved, the social element of the event was outstanding. Alongside the beer spoken about above, there were the PUMA ladies instigating a bit of trouble as well as giving away spot prizes throughout the day. There was table tennis and foosball as well in a very well stocked social area that overlooked the chipping challenge. We were also entertained by the brilliant beats of Matt Suttner, who you may remember from the PUMA Social Club. And like any trip to Pretoria, the day was only complete with the good old Boerewors Rolls for lunch!

The Clubs

Cobra PUMA 3Amongst all the fan, the main objective of the day was to introduce golfers to the new Cobra BioCell clubs. The clubs fit in brilliantly in the game-improvement category and I could see this in my own game straight away. The clubs have a perfect weight and my irons were much more accurate with the clubs appearing to be very forgiving for us hacks of the game. The colour might catch the eye, but its the playability of the clubs that will be the lasting memory of the brilliant BioCell. I need a set, like now!

The Rest

Cobra PUMA 5Probably the finest golf shoes out right now are from the PUMA range and they were out on display in full force. Do yourself a favour and check out the brilliant new range. I am currently wearing the Biofusion Spikeless Mesh Shoes, which are extremely comfortable and appropriate for almost any occasion (Okay, maybe not a wedding). There is also the Faas Lite golf shoes and the aesthetically awesome Monolites. All of these were on display to give golfers an idea of what is coming in the latest releases.
