All Things Jabu adopts a Cheetah

The All Things Jabu team recently collaborated with Sporting Bet, placing nominal bets on our predictions for the Football World Cup, with all winnings being donated to charity. It was a lot of fun, but suffices to say none of us will be taking up careers as professional gamblers just yet! We have decided to use our winnings to adopt a Cheetah from the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre. Funds raised through adoptions are used to help the centre pay for the veterinarian bills for all the animals at the centre and thus every little bit helps.

For those that don’t know about the centre, it’s situated just outside Hartebeesport, and they do the most amazing work with not just the Cheetah but also Wild Dogs and Vultures. The centre was the first place in the world where they managed to breed Cheetahs successfully in captivity. The ATJ team got involved with the centre through the Clare Vale race team, who have the centre as their adopted charity. Dirk Vale runs the marketing and media for the team, and runs the annual charity Cheetah karting Day where Tyron Barnard has previously participated.

Once you visit the centre you can’t help but become an ambassador. What is unique about the centre is the work they do beyond just conservation. They also run an amazing outreach programme with their ambassador Cheetahs. These ambassador cheetahs visit schools and help educate the learners regarding conservation and the environment.

The team at ATJ decided it would be a wonderful way to give back by adopting a Cheetah. The beautiful animal we’ve adopted is named Heathcliff and is a King Cheetah. For the next year we hope our contribution will help the centre care for the majestic animals, and hopefully those reading this article will go visit the centre and adopt a Cheetah as well. It really is worth the trip, there’s no feeling quite like getting to stroke a Cheetah as it purrs, very loudly and happily!
