The 2014 CHAN kicks off in one month today, where all African Nations will call on players that play only in their home leagues. This means that the Nigeria will be unable to call on the likes of Victor Moses, John Obi Mikel, Obafemi Martins and others. Bafana Bafana on the other hand will only be unable to call up Bongani Khumalo, Anele Ngcongca, Kagisho Dikgacoi, Dean Furman, Daylon Claasen, Ayanda Patosi and Tokelo Rantie. All other players that featured against Spain will be available and the will obviously be a healthy dose of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates players. This will also be Bafana’s first outing post Madiba and will be looking to perform extremely with some Madiba Magic.
The draw was conducted on the 18 September 2013 and looks like this:
South Africa did not get the easiest draw available, but its a great opportunity to get one over consistent rivals Nigeria as well as revenge to our AFCON 2013 conquerors Mali. Yes they will be very different teams, but a good opportunity nonetheless.
Here are the group fixtures:
And then of course is the knock out stages.
So Bafana’s path to the final should they top the group, could be a Quarter Final against Uganda/ Zimbabwe, a Semi Final against Congo DR and a final against someone. Lets support the boys!
