As I did the other day with The EPL, I also made some predictions for my local football league, the PSL. The PSL ended in an absolute epic last day as three teams could still win the title and late goals and keeper mistakes changed the ultimate destination of the trophy! So here are the end of season positions with the Jabu predicitions in brackets again:
1. Orlando Pirates (2)
Well until Hans Vonk slipped up for Ajax on the last game of the season, I was actually correct with this one. Well done to Pirates, but I cant understand how you win three trophies and get rid of your coach!
2. Ajax Cape Town (6)
They willl forever rue the final day and their veteran keepers mistake. They can however be proud of their season and will do South Africa proud in the African tournaments next season. I got this one horribly wrong!
3. Kaizer Chiefs (1)
The last minute equaliser by Orlando Pirates will be the point that Kaizer Chiefs lost the title and that I got my prediction wrong.
4. Mamelodi Sundowns (3)
I did predict that they would fade, but they will regret their inability to finish the season and probably also their owners inability to let a coach go all season!
5. Bloemfontein Celtic (5)
YES! Spot on! I got this one right! Nuff said!
6. Wits University (13)
Well they started the season poorly and I couldnt see anything changing. That being said, Wits will be very happy to have qualified in the Top 8.
7. Supersport United (7)
Thats two spot on for the Erkhuruleni based Jabu! True Story! Supersports triple defence of their title faltered without even a whimper.
8. Santos (4)
Well, they faded badly and my hope for them to push on from a great start appears completely unfounded.
9. FS Stars (11)
A nice improvement over the season and just missing out on the Top 8 finish. My prediction not too far off!
10. Platinum Stars (10)
A Third spot on for Jabu. They have not been the same team since Owen Da Gama left, but 10th is still very credible for the Stars.
11. Golden Arrows (8)
I like Golden Arrows. I like Ernst Middendorp. I think they have underperformed in finishing 11th. Definately should be higher up the league
12. Maritzburg United (15)
The opposite of Golden Arrows. They really should finish lower. They beat Sundowns though and will live to fight another day in the top tier of South African football.
13. Moroka Swallows (14)
Moroka Swallows were picked by many to go down after a terrible start, but the appointment of Gordon Igesund meant they were always likely to stay up. I almost go this spot on.
14. Amazulu (12)
Dissappointing last few weeks in the league meant that an outside chance for top 8 became a nervous look over their shoulders for relegation. And it ruined my prediction.
15. Vasco da Gama (9)
Their story is so similar to that of Blackpool in the premiership. They were a pleasant surprise, they played exciting football, they had an outstanding start to the league, but they fell off the pace and were ultimately relegated. A prediction I made based on heart shows again that the head should rule!
16. Mpumalanga Black Aces (16)
They were a joke this season and an easy prediction for anyone predicting the league. But its still another one right for Jabu!
In Summary, I got 4 spot on, 3 within 1 and 3 within 2. Not too shabby and definately a sign of the fact that I might be better at predicting local football rather than the English. Of course “Local is Lekker”
